William Eldon Gentry, age 97, of Wills Point, Texas was born May 21, 1927 to William L. Gentry and Viola Carolina (Lemaire) Gentry and passed away June 1, 2024. William and his twin brother, Cleveland, were born on the Motley Farm, Mesquite, Texas which is at the approximate location of what is now Eastfield College. He was a Veteran and served his country in the Army Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. After his service, he worked for American Standard and then started his own company, Gentry Supply & Parts, Inc. in 1962 and worked there for over 50 years. He married Lilla Crofford on June 22, 1963 in Durant, Oklahoma.
In his spare time Bill enjoyed cooking and entertaining, hunting, visiting Las Vegas, boating and hosting BBQ's and fish frys. Bill's family and friends will always remember him as a hard worker who enjoyed entertaining and always hosting and gathering everyone together for every holiday.
He is preceded in death by his first love, Lilla Gentry; twin brother, Cleveland Aldon Gentry; brother, Elbert Terry; sister, Stella Mae Powell; parents, William L. Gentry and Viola Carolina (Lemaire) Gentry; paternal grandparents, James Wesley Gentry & Ava Tennessee (Vaughan) Gentry and maternal grandparents, Joseph Lemaire & Amanda Lemaire. He is survived by daughter, Carole Hodges; grandchildren, Gary Cantrell and Summer Webb; nephew, Phillip Gentry; nieces, Anna Terry Bozman, Betty Powell Beasley and Kelly Dickman.
A visitation for William will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A committal service will occur following services at Mesquite City Cemetery.
