Vincent Anthony Wayne, age 98, passed away on February 17, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on June 29, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York to James & Concetta Combatti. Vincent married Geraldine Edmonston in 1942 and the couple had two children. He served as Sergeant in the US Army during WWII Pacific for two years. He worked as a Detective Lieutenant in the New York Police Department for 22 years. Geraldine died after 57 years together, and Vince remarried to Florence Francovitch in 1999 and remained with her until her death. In Vince’s spare time he was an avid ballroom dancer and took every opportunity to do so. Being part of the “Greatest Generation” Vincent was a patriot to his core and even sang the National Anthem before his death. He was a proud son of immigrant Italians and taught his sons to embrace their heritage. Vincent was a skilled poker player, practical joker, impish rabble-rouser, fierce romantic & flirt, and a good friend to all who crossed his path offering help where ever he could. Vincent received numerous medals for his duties in WWII most notably the Bronze Star for his actions in Saipan, Japan. While on the NYPD force he was awarded many commendations for his service. After retirement, Vince opened a small antique shop and was active in his community as Chair of his HOA for 10 years. He was an avid sports fan and gamer of slots and tables until the very end. He was often call “Our Lion” by family members for his ability to endure insurmountable odds. He is survived by Christopher James Wayne, son; Virginia Carol Wayne, daughter-in-law; Elaine Ditchkus, step-daughter; and William Francovitch, step-son. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and distant relatives who remember him fondly.
