Reginald Dan Jones (Reg) was born on May 16, 1929 in Bettie, TX, to Joe and Vera Jones. Reg graduated from Warren High School in 1948, later obtaining an Associates Degree in Applied Arts from El Centro College. He married his wife, Madge, in 1951, and after staying in Dallas and Rylie a short time, then Mesquite for 35 years, they ultimately settled in Sunnyvale in 1992. He was employed by Dallas Transit System/DART for 37 years, retiring as Director of Maintenance in 1989.
Reg, known as Pop to many, had numerous hobbies of various interests. He had a love for music and enjoyed playing both the guitar and steel guitar. While in Mesquite he raised chinchillas, quails, pheasants, and chickens. Reg was also a HAM radio operator and back in the day he would connect overseas service personnel with their family in the States, especially during the holidays. Most grandkids can remember his skill of ventriloquism with Junior, his ventriloquist dummy. They also loved to come over to search for and count turtles. In his backyard, each of the 100+ turtles are named and numbered by the grandkids. In 2003, Duck (a cockatiel) became a member of the family which started his aviary including a double yellow-headed Amazon, blue naped parrot, parakeets, doves, sun conures and half-moon conures.
He is a devout Christian and attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Mesquite. He loved visits from family members and watching the great/great-great grandkids play. At 95 years loved, he remained sharp minded and quick witted.
Reg was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70+ years, Madge; parents; and sister: Mae Dell Freeman. He is survived by son: Danny Jones and wife JoNita of Mesquite, daughter: Sharon Egan and husband Mark of Sunnyvale, and son: Jerry Jones and wife Shelley of Mesquite; grandchildren: Duane Jones and wife Amy, Brad Jones and wife Staci, Chad Meek and wife Beth, Erica Hancock and husband Daniel, Lee Meek, Lauren Ray and husband Terry, Shelley Houx and husband Wes, Jessica Stewart and husband Kyle, and Joe Jones; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation for Reginald will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Laurel Oaks Cemetery, 12649 Lake June Rd, Mesquite, Texas 75180.
