Reba Evelyn Kammer was born July 21, 1938 in Falfurrias, Brooks Co., Texas the second daughter of Frank Louis and Fern Ione (Mayfield) Kammer. Evelyn moved at a very early age with her parents and sister to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she grew up. Several years later a brother was born into the family.
Evelyn grew up playing the piano accordion and was encouraged by her parents to play at all family functions. This was not one of her favorite memories. When Evelyn graduated from High School, she did a little modeling. Then went to work for American Airlines as a stewardess. At that time you could not be a stewardess if you were married. Evelyn flew all over the world, however the other stewardess and pilot's did not like to work her flights because they almost always had mechanical problems or emergency landings. It was during this time that her Uncle Boyd & Aunt DeAlva (Crowder) Mayfield introduced DeAlva's brother Al Crowder to Evelyn. Al and Evelyn were married a week after Evelyn's 21st birthday on July 28th, 1959. Almost a year later, Evelyn started showing with her first child, which got her fired from the airlines. Evelyn had two more children over 5 years. Al and Evelyn moved to Dallas, Texas.
While working as a police dispatcher, Evelyn saw a listing DALLAS POLICE HIRING WOMEN. She applied and became one of the first 10 women hired by the police department. Evelyn very quickly moved through the department working Southeast, SWAT and then Crimes Against Persons where she found her passion as a Rape Detective. During this time Evelyn was in the Coast Guard Reserves, she enlisted on 27 June 1973 - June 1975. Evelyn was working on her Masters Degree during this time also maintaining a 3.0 or greater grade point avg. Evelyn earned her Masters degree in 1975. Evelyn and Al were divorced in 1981. Evelyn met Jack Allison while working in CAPERS. They became fast friends. Jack and Evelyn were married June 1990 and were inseparable. Evelyn retired from the police department in 1991.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, painting and quilting and Jigsaw puzzles in her spare time. She really enjoyed spending time with the Lord and her ever growing family.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents.
Evelyn is survived by her husband and soul mate Jack Franklin Allison Jr., Children; Scott Crowder of Sachse, Texas, Shannon Murphy of Garland Texas, and Kelli (Chuck) Smythe of Texoma,Texas; Grand Children; Clay (Shannon) Crowder, Rochelle (Larry) Womack, Mark Crowder, Joey (Gretchen) Crowder, Colin (Jamie) Smythe, Nicholas (Shelby) Smythe, Liam (Brenna) Smythe, and Emilie Smythe, and 10 Great-grandchildren. Her sister Jeanett (Geoffery) Kennedy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and brother Jerry Kammer of Frisco, Texas
