Ray Lavon McCollum, age 85, of Mesquite, Texas passed away on Wednesday August 21, 2019. Ray was born January 11, 1934 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He attended Durant High School and served in the Army National Guard, thereafter he enlisted in the US Army and returned to serve two more years in the Army Reserve. Ray met the love of his life, Barbara Ann, at his brother's wedding. They married on May 26, 1956 and had two children. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Ray and Ann would often take their children on family vacations and road trips throughout the United States. He loved camping, hunting, eating, buying cars, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and anything electronic. Ray was a "jack of all trades" and worked in various jobs throughout his life. Ray was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Ray enjoyed life to the fullest and he will be truly missed by those who loved him.
Ray is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann McCollum; daughter Vickie Bargas; son-in-law David Bargas; son Steven McCollum; and daughter-in-law Cindy McCollum; sister Sheila Rudolf; granddaughter Loren Nicole Dominguez and husband Aaron, grandson Christopher Ryan Bargas, and great grandsons Ben and Sammy Dominguez.
A memorial service for Ray will be held Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home Chapel.
