Paul Almendarez Liscano, age 87, passed away on November 1, 2024, resting peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on July 23, 1937, in Waco, Texas to Tiburcio Liscano and Mary Almendarez Liscano. Paul “SKIN” was raised in Dallas in the West Dallas neighborhood and attended St. Mary Catholic School, Sidney Lanier, and Thomas Edison in Dallas, Texas. He married his devoted wife of 64 years, Juanita Pena in 1960 and they were blessed with five children.
He was a mason by trade. He worked as a brick layer for approximately 50 years, starting at the age of 17. A majority of his career he worked for Bob Miller/Lincoln Properties in Dallas in the SMU lower Greenville area commonly known as “The Village.” His son, Paul, Jr., worked side by side with him for many years.
In his spare time, in his early years, Paul enjoyed playing softball in a Dallas league with his son, brothers-in-law and friends at Grauwyler park in Dallas, Kidd Springs, and Little Mexico. Paul also enjoyed playing pool and being surrounded by family. For years, Paul would enjoy his morning walks, and he also enjoyed gardening with his son and sharing the fruits of his labor with family. He entertained his family and friends with singing and playing his guitar. He enjoyed fishing in the summer and picking pecans in the fall and watching his favorite sports teams “Yankees”, “Astros” and the “Redskins” was a pass time he enjoyed with his son.
His family and friends will always remember him as a sweet, kind, loving soul. He was a man of honor, integrity and commitment. He was a man who centered his life on God and family. A selfless man that always put others above himself. “If he could help you” he was going to do his best to help you. Each Sunday, without fail you could find him in church for 10:00 am Mass sitting in the second to the last pew in the second section on the right. He and his best friend, his son, Paulanka were inseparable.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Tiburcio Liscano; Mother, Mary Liscano; Sister, Hortencia Caballero; Brother, Tomas Liscano; his beloved Granny Cliofas Almendarez; and his dearly loved and missed grandson, Paul Christopher Liscano.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Juanita Liscano; only son, Paul Liscano, Jr.; four daughters, Mary Rosales (Mario), Lisa Alcala (Joe), Anna Small (John), and Christina Cooper (Donnie).1 Sister, Rita Cardoza
Grandchildren: Mary Jane DeLeon, Melissa Rosales, Krystal Rodriguez, Carlos Veloz, Kristin Hernandez, John Hernandez, Mackenzie Alcala, Jordan Small, Gabriela Alcala, Thomas Small, Emily Small, and Aiden Cooper.
He was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
