Nancy was born May 8, 1941, the daughter of Lawrence and Maxine Powell. She was born and raised in Ft. Worth, Texas, the oldest sister of sibling Larry Powell. To say that Nancy loved her brother would be an understatement. Many times she would recall fond memories of her childhood and reminisce about how she took care of Larry growing up and would cook for him after school while her parents were at work.
Nancy met the love of her life, Gary Kinne, in 1957 during her sophomore year while in her drama class at Paschal High School. Numerous times throughout her life she would happily tell the story about the day her drama teacher asked her to help another student in the class, Gary, study his lines. She was proud to let everyone know that he would’ve never remembered them if it hadn’t been for her, nor would she have met her best friend, future husband and life partner. They both graduated from Paschal High School in 1959 and attended Tyler Junior College, where she was an Apache Belle and Gary played football. Nancy would often tell others about her dad trying to bribe her with a new car if she would go to Baylor and not follow Gary to Tyler, but she knew she wanted to be with him. That decision paid off. She and Gary married September 9, 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas and lived there until moving to Mesquite, Texas where they would remain.
The two enjoyed life together raising their two children, daughter Karla and son Gary Joe. Nancy loved to ride horses, walk her dog, read her Bible, shop, go to the beach, cook and attend sporting events, especially events where her kids or grandkids were playing or coaching. She and Gary enjoyed spending their time making memories with their kids and grandkids, GJ, Craig, Kellie, Colby and Landry. They were great parents and grandparents and were extremely proud of the family they had created.
Nancy had a few jobs throughout the years. She worked at Proctor and Gamble, M&M Mars, Photo-Mat and Tinkerwood, but anyone that knew Nancy would agree that her choice to primarily be a stay at home mom was a choice no one would have argued with, as there was no one else that could compare with her in the role of a mother. She was the best. She took great pride in taking care of her family.
Nancy and Gary were members of Sunnyvale First Baptist Church in Sunnyvale, Texas.
