Guadalupe R. Garcia, age 81, of Mesquite, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024. He was born September 7, 1943 in Salinas, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Romana Ramirez Esparza and Sacramento Alonso Lopez. Guadalupe came to the United States at the age of 10 in 1953 and his family settled in Chicago where he attended High School and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1964.
Soon after he joined the Army in 1966 where he took an Infantry Radio Maintenance course. He successfully completed the course and was awarded his diploma in 1967. While in the Army, he was ranked SP5 and served in the Vietnam War. He served overseas for two years and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army in 1972.
Guadalupe married Olga R. Garcia in 1970 and the couple had three children. He was a Level 3 Layout Tester at Western Electric/Lucent Technologies for many years.
In his spare time, Guadalupe enjoyed working on cars, taking them apart and putting them back together. He enjoyed going to the junk yards to look around for spare parts for his cars. Guadalupe loved fishing, watching all kinds of sports, especially boxing and baseball, listening to all types of music and going to the casino. But most of all, Guadalupe loved spending time and laughing with his family.
Guadalupe will be remembered as a very strong and hard worker. His family will remember his dedication to providing for them and helping his family. He was a very reliable man and was a man of his word. He was a jokester, always playing around and being goofy, he loved making those around him laugh. His children will always remember the way he loved them in his own special way and that was not by words, but by his actions.
Guadalupe is preceded in death by the love of his life, Olga R. Garcia; parents, Romana Ramirez Esparza and Sacramento Alonso Lopez; brothers, Alberto, Filiberto and Roman an sisters, Aurora and Isabel. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Eric Garcia and Gabriel Garcia; daughter, Griselda Alvarez and husband, Ruben; grandchildren, Joshua Cortez, Jordan Garcia, Jacob Garcia, Jayden Garcia and Victoria Alvarez; sisters, Leonor Garcia Ramirez and Andrea, as well as a host of extended family members.
A funeral service for Guadalupe will be held Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Parish, 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd, Dallas, Texas 75228. A visitation will occur Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A committal service will occur Friday, December 27, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211.
