Billie Jo Jones was born on August 25, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to Andrew and Dovie Mae Hoops. She passed from this life to heaven’s glory on June 24, 2022 in Forney, Texas. She was known as Billie Jo to her friends and acquaintances, as Mother to her four devoted daughters, and as Mawmaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She married Bobby Jones on October 2, 1949. Bobby preceded her in death on July 20, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, by granddaughter, Kayce Krone; and by brothers, A.B. Hoops, Kenneth Hoops, Donald Hoops, sister, Evelyn Lindsey, and brothers-in-law Jack Lindsey, Buck Pate, and R.H. Childers.
Billie Jo’s life was centered around her home and family. Nothing brought her greater joy in her later life than having grandchildren and then great-grandchildren in her home. She will be remembered for her skill as a seamstress and cook, and for being an avid reader. Her skill as a cook led to her serving for a number of years with the Mesquite Independent School District. She employed her skill as a seamstress in making sure her daughters were always dressed beautifully as they were growing up and in providing numerous people with everything from uniforms to wedding gowns. She loved fish fries and family reunions, playing canasta, 42, and Phase 10, and cooking biscuits and gravy. She reared her four daughters to love the Lord and His church, and to respect the value of hard work.
Left to cherish her memory are sisters Madolyn Pate and Gwendolyn Childers; sister-in-law, Tenia Hoops; daughters Teena Dyer and her husband, Gary; Terrie Lansdale and her husband, Billy; Tonya Hunt, and Toni Jones. She is also survived by grandchildren Chad Riley and his wife, Lanie; Brent Dyer and his wife, Jill; Tricia Anderson and her husband, Danny; Kelly Johnson and her husband, Scott; Lecia Garner and her husband, Mark; Lacey Swinson and her husband, Drew; and Matt Lansdale. Great-grandchildren who survive her include Chelsie, Camryn, and Carsyn Riley, Hunter, Hayden, and Hallie Anderson, Blake and Kate Dyer, Mason and Macie Johnson, Cade and Carter Krone, Jordan and Courtney Garner, Wesley and Brylie Swinson; Betty and Josh Lansdale, and Kaitlan Perkins. Three great-great-grandchildren survive Billie Jo as well: Braylee, Paislee, and Barrett Perkins, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
