Alfred P. Nolan, age 79, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. Alfred was born on July 23, 1941, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was raised in Rocky Ford, Colorado and Olton, Texas until he joined the Army in 1958. He proudly served his country for four years, returned home, and met the love of his life in 1962. He married Terrie in 1963 and had 3 children. Alfred was a welder and mechanic by trade, owned his own business in West Texas until moving to the Dallas area, where he served the Garland Independent School District the last 25 years of his career.
Our Alfred was a man of few words, but always had an abundance of knowledge and wisdom, usually served with a side of wit and humor. He was the one that family and friends often called for guidance on how to fix or build something, and there wasn’t a thing that he couldn’t build, fix, augment, weld or repair. (Dad was our personal Google or YouTube back in the day.)
He modeled for us a strong work ethic and the belief that anything can be accomplished with hard work and determination (and of course the right set of tools).
He was a family man. He lived for his family and always put his family first. He was selfless when it came to his responsibilities and obligations, which made him a great provider. He was a caring father who sheltered us from hardships, and a protector that kept life’s many perils at bay. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and most recently his new great great grandchild.
His love for us was abundant and constant. We always knew where we stood with him…loved, secure and safe. He doted over his grands and great grands with love, affection and a healthy dose of silliness that they will always remember.
He was one of a kind; humble, yet proud, strong, yet tender hearted, smart, yet goofy, and the most creative person ever. He could build anything out of anything and make a joke out of nothing. We will all especially miss his storytelling and his practical jokes.
He was Terrie’s “honey” for almost 59 years, our daddy, our grand daddy, our papa, our pappy, and forever our hero. He was Mary’s loving son…Lucy, Floyd, and Mary’s (Andrellita) caring brother…and one of our very best friends.
His memories will live on with each of us and we will always hold him close in our hearts until we meet again.
