Addie Ruth Lewellyn Poteet Killian, 86, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at her home with her husband, Murlyn, by her side. Addie was born September 1, 1928, in Dallas, Texas, to Jesse and Earlene Lewellyn. She was raised in rural Dallas and loved the country. From early on in her childhood, she took to the role of homemaker and caretaker. She was a natural! These God-given abilities were used to bless all those she encountered. She worked various jobs throughout her life. From Stockton’s in downtown Dallas, to Olan Mills, to owning her very own ceramic shop in East Texas, to raising her girls (…and maybe Murlyn, too) and running her household, she was always a hard-worker and blessed those around her. As her life progressed, she embraced her artistic and creative side. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, oil painting and ceramics. She also loved to read her Bible, cook and watch her westerns on the television! Toward the latter part of her life, she even fell in love with Texas Rangers baseball. Everyone who knew Addie knew of her love for the Lord, her love for her husband and family, and for her love of her black poodle, Jacques. She loved to talk and share stories of her life. She was a warrior, a protector and a strong-willed woman. Serving as the matriarch of her family, she loved deeply and protected fiercely. She was a deeply devoted wife, mother, sister, Nanaw and friend. She leaves behind her loving husband, Murlyn Killian; her daughters, Yuvonne (Tuk) Doss, and Shelly (Mark) McCabe; twelve grandchildren, Kim Letier, Johnny Harris, Richard (Tracy) Shanks, Patricia Doss, Joanne Doss, Stephanie Doss, Stephen (Jennifer) Grimes, Shauna (Lee) Soto, John (Kristin) Grimes, Heather (Mike) Peterson, Melissa Chapman and Jordan Chapman; and twelve great-grandchildren, John Grimes, Amberlee Soto, Colton Grimes, Jake Grimes, Alexander Soto, Gracie Grimes, Cash Grimes, Cade Grimes, Hadley Peterson, Sidney Shanks, Savannah Grimes and Emery Peterson. Addie was preceded in death by: her father, Jesse Lewellyn; her mother, Earlene Lewellyn; her sister, Nita Jones; her brother, Wayne Lewellyn; her brother, Jess Lewellyn; and her daughter, Eugenia Diane Poteet. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Gonzalez Funeral Home & Crematory located at 1111 Military Parkway in Mesquite, Texas. Celebration of life and funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29 beginning at 10 a.m.
