Roy Johnson was born at home May 25, 1922 to Otto J. and Marie Shanley Johmson in Grygla, Minnesota. Roy attended school at Grygla (1-8), Thief River Falls (9-10) and graduated Warren High in 1944. He attended St. John's College School of Engineering at Collegeville. MN. 1940-41 where he played baseball. He enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines Jan. 1942 and served 44 months in the Atlantic, Mediterraneam and Pacific Theaters of Operations. He was married to Edith Rogers, BM2 (SPARS) of Cincinnati, OH. Dec. 12, 1945 until her death Aug. 9, 1997. Roy worked as a warehouse and office manager for Line Material in Cincinnati and Memphis, TN. 1948-1964. Sold power electric equipment for Power and Telephone Supply 1964-79 and for Hatfield & Co. 1979-1993. Roy was a scout for Major League Baseball Los Angles Dodgers and San Diego Padres 1963-1975.He was active in breeding, training and performing Tennessee Walking and American Saddle Bred Horses on his ranch in Tupelo, MS. The World Champion Horse of the Year, Siluette of Sunset, was born on his ranch in 1977. Roy resided in Memphis, TN. 1952-1966; Tupelo, MS. 1966-1993 and Mesa & Chandler, AZ. 1993 until his death Jan. 30 2014. He is survived by his sister Iola Hennebry of Bemidji, MN., daughter Donna Feeney of Mesa, AZ., daughter JoAnn Griggs of San Antonio, TX., and son Chuck Johnson of San Antonio, TX., 6 grand children and 8 great grand children.
