Kathryn Elizabeth Schorno

Kathryn Elizabeth Schorno was born on May 20, 1922, and must have been following her heart when she left our world on Valentine’s Day this year. She has now joined Anton Schorno, her husband on earth for over fifty years.

Some of her early Washington days were spent along Chuckanut Drive with mother Fern and Dave Johnson, caretaker at Larrabee State Park. Later in life, you could find her bouncing around on a green John Deere tractor at the Conway family farm on Fir Island alongside of the Skagit River or driving truck for Twin City Foods during harvest time.

Kay tended bar at several Burlington locations and was an active member of the Eagles and Moose Club (a member since 1955), where she served drinks at one of the only places that was occasionally below the waterline of the Skagit River that rolled along right out front of the window. Mom loved fishing, hunting and was an avid sports fan, favoring the Seahawks and Mariners along with the rest of us.

Her family includes Stephen (Corky) Horvath of Kalispell, Montana, Lee Brooks of Friday Harbor, WA, Jeff (Jodi) Brooks of Selah, WA, and Kelli (Dave) Brooks-Mannon of Bow, WA. Other members of Kay’s extended family include grandchildren Nicole Horvath-Ferreria, Dunellen, NJ, Richard (Mikki) Brooks, Hilo, HI, Angela Brooks-Scott of Seattle, WA, Greg Brooks of Anacortes, WA, Chad (Jenni) Stahlecker of Mount Vernon, WA, Pamela (Mat) Ballenger of Bow, WA, and Shaun Mannon of Sedro Woolley, WA. Kay also had six great grandchildren: Alysha Ward, Daryl Scott Jr., Jackson and Cooper Stahlecker, and Malaki and Makenna Ballenger.

The family asks that donations be made to local Hospice care in honor of Banner Hospice of Arizona.
