Juan Martinez Ramon passed away on September 21, 2020. He will be greatly missed along with all the wisdom he shared. Juan’s journey started on November 24, 1944 in El Moral, Coahuila, Mexico. He was the second oldest of nine children to Jesus Sr. and Consuelo Ramon. In 1958 he began working as a migrant farm worker in Queen Creek, Arizona where he would later meet his wife Evangelina Munguia whom he married on January 15, 1965. Over the years Juan and Evangelina’s family grew to 8 children including, Ofelia Marquez, Mayte Delgado, Myrna Quihuis, Rosie Flores, Connie Herrera, Juan Jr. Ramon, Adam Ramon and Ramon M. Ramon. In addition to his children he has 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Juan is survived by 5 siblings; Jesus Ramon Jr., Jose Maria Ramon, Sergio Rafael Ramon, Maria Del Socorro Lira, and Irazema Leija. He is preceded in death by his parents, parent-in-laws, brother Nolberto, sister Obdulia, son Ramon and wife Evangelina.
Juan devoted his life to evangelization. Educating others on the Bible and the church’s teachings is what he enjoyed most. He was part of various ministries at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Queen Creek, Arizona including music director for over 20 years. He volunteered his time to not only Catholic charities, but also to various migrant head start programs. While working in the fields of Oregon he went to school and got certified as an auto body painter in 1968. He then moved back to Arizona where he worked for many well-known car dealerships throughout the valley. His quest for knowledge never ended and was known by many as a walking encyclopedia and also had the memory of an elephant, which would lead to his acquisition of U.S Citizenship in 1997.
Juan’s children and grandchildren will miss him for many things, but to them, no one will ever make menudo as good as him. Juan’s journey will come to an end on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3450 W. Ray Rd, Chandler, AZ 85226 with a viewing at 10:00 am, followed immediately by mass at 11:00 am (face mask required).
