James Junior Handley passed away Saturday, December 15, after fighting an illness of more than 4 months. He was the son of James B. and Elaine (Smith) Handley and was born in Hannibal, Missouri on November 3, 1936. He married Helen Cobbe on October 6, 1963 in Delhi, New York. They lived all their married life in Mesa, Arizona and raised two children there. Jim was a highly skilled machinist and established JH Tool and Machine Company in 1979 in a shop behind his house. He never bought anything to fix something if he could make the part he needed and he came up with several patent-worthy items, but didn’t pursue that venue. It was just the thing to do if he needed to fix something. Jim’s Favorite hobby was bowling and he had two 300 games to his credit. He and his wife both enjoyed bowling, but they bowled on different teams and enjoyed the competition. When he was in the Army in the early 1960’s, he was stationed in Berlin, Germany and was there when the “wall” was built. He is a member of the Berlin Veterans group and he and his wife have attended some of the reunions in various cities. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, daughter Jennifer, son Scott, two granddaughters Bethany and Mallory Hector, mother Elaine, all of Mesa, Arizona and sister Loyce (Dixon) Sumpter from Post Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father, James Benjamin Handley. Services for Jim will be Saturday December 22, 2012 at 2:00PM with a 1:15 gathering prior at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care in the cemetery garden chapel 6747E. Broadway Mesa, AZ 85206. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the Mohammed Ali Parkinson’s Center 240 W. Thomas Rd. #301 Phoenix, AZ 85013 or to Hospice of The Valley 1510 E.
