It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jacob Allan Long, aged 18, on September 1, 2023. Jacob was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and teammate who touched the lives of everyone he met with his boundless enthusiasm, infectious smile, and unwavering kindness.
Born on September 2, 2004, Jacob grew up in a loving home surrounded by family and friends who cherished him deeply. From an early age, Jacob demonstrated a zest for life that was truly inspiring. He was a dedicated and passionate ice hockey player, known for his determination on the ice and his sportsmanship. Jacob's love for the game was matched only by his love for his family, who were his biggest supporters in all his endeavors.
Jacob graduated from Perry High School in May 2022. He was a bright student, known for his curious mind and eagerness to learn. His academic achievements were a testament to his hard work and dedication. In the fall of 2022, Jacob began his studies at Northern Arizona State University, where he was excited to explore new opportunities, make lasting memories, and play Division 2 college hockey. From there, Jacob transferred to Arizona State University, to their Aeronautical Management Technology program through the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering in the Fall of 2023.
Beyond his academic and athletic pursuits, Jacob was a young man of great character and compassion. He had an innate ability to make those around him feel valued and loved. Whether he was spending time with his family or hanging out with friends, Jacob brought joy and light to every moment.
Jacob is survived by his devoted parents, Nathan and Melanie Long, and his loving sister, Mackenzie Long, his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family finds solace in the countless beautiful memories they shared and the permanent mark he left on their hearts. Jacob will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the love and laughter he brought into the world.
A celebration of Jacob's life will be held later this year to remember and honor a remarkable young man whose life, though tragically cut short, was filled with love, joy, and purpose.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jacob's memory to the Arizona High School Hockey Association, an organization that brought him so much happiness and where he made countless friendships and memories.
Jacob Allan Long will forever be in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know him.
