Hazel Elizabeth Vogel died of natural causes in the care of Aegis Hospice on August 21, 2022. She was 99 years old.
Hazel was born on June 11th, 1923 in Vauxhall, New Jersey to William and Ada Ekdahl, the third of nine children. She married her life-long husband, Paul Reinhardt Vogel in 1942 . Paul joined the navy in 1940 and survived Pearl Harbor, serving many decades until his retirement in 1966. She and Paul resided in National City, CA for the majority of their lives together.
Hazel served her family every day of her life as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the best cook, seamstress and homemaker around and approached everything she did with grace, skill and humor.
Her selflessness and devotion to the people she brought into the world and nurtured into adulthood is her greatest legacy, one she was quietly proud of every day of her life. She was preceded in death by her son Paul and her daughter Starr in 1988 and her husband Paul in 2011. She is survived by her daughter Dawn, her son Del, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
