Donovan was a loving husband and father, committed to ensuring the stability of his family throughout his life. His relationship with Carmen began in their childhood years when they both lived in the same building in New York. Donovan knew from a young age that Carmen was someone special, and he was determined to make her his wife. Their bond only grew stronger over the years, culminating in 48 years of marriage, during which they raised two beautiful children.
A passionate father, Donovan dedicated his life to teaching his children about education, science, comics, and the art of debate. His encouragement was instrumental in motivating both Donovan Jr. and Kristyn to pursue higher education, becoming an excellent role model and guiding force in their lives. As he transitioned into the role of grandfather, Donovan’s hard exterior softened as he welcomed his sweet granddaughter to the family followed shortly by his grandson. Donovan developed a special, loving relationship with his grandchildren, particularly Dymarco, who held an extraordinary place in his heart. From the moment Dymarco came home from the hospital, Donovan began building an unbreakable bond with him. He showered his grandchildren with love, affection, and laughter, cherishing every moment spent watching his children and grandchildren grow.
Donovan's life was rich with diverse interests and talents. A man of many passions, he excelled in Taekwondo, where he earned a black belt, and was also a renowned DJ. He was an expert huntsman, skilled with both bow and rifle, as well as a master of chess. His eye for photography was unmatched, capturing memories that his family will forever treasure.
Donovan’s intellect and technical prowess were equally remarkable. After earning his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, he went on to have a successful career at Motorola, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring. Despite facing the debilitating health challenge of a brain tumor, Donovan refused to let adversity hinder his dreams. Even as he dealt with the physical limitations of a wheelchair, hearing, and vision impairments, he persevered in his academic pursuits, ultimately earning his Master's Degree in Computer Science from Western University. Throughout his life, Donovan proved time and again that he was a fighter. He overcame numerous health challenges, including brain tumors, strokes, and cancer, and always defied the odds with his sheer willpower.
Donovan loved to watch Science Fiction and Superhero movies, with Star Trek and Marvel films being his favorites. He was always up for a chess match and had recently set the goal of teaching his beloved grandson the game he loved. Donovan also had a deep passion for health and fitness, which sometimes led to humorous negotiations with his oncologist, as he was determined to maintain his gym routine despite his illness.
Donovan's greatest legacy, however, was his resilience and conviction. He was a man who never gave up, no matter the obstacle. His strength of will and kind heart were evident in the many ways he helped his family—whether through guidance, mentorship, or financial support. He was a shining example of what it means to live long and prosper, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, determination, and an unwavering belief in the power of never giving up.
