Diane Marie Young
December 6th, 1946 - February 8th, 2022
“A few hours ago, the window was left open and the soul and spirit of a wonderful lady was allowed to return to its maker. She slipped away from us without any pain or agony. We will all miss her everyday but will always enjoy talking about all she gave to us and how she made our lives better each day. We will learn how to get by but will never forget to think about her each day.” - Lewis Young, loving husband
The wonderful matriarch of our family passed away peacefully and with family by her side on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at Sunrise of Chandler. Diane was born in Watertown, MN to her parents, Walter and Audrey Schmidt. She spent her early years in Minnesota, Colorado, and Arizona with her parents and four younger brothers Jeff, Dwight, Tim, and Kevin - poor thing! Growing up, Diane enjoyed skiing, spending time at the local library, and horseback riding. Diane attended Washington High School where she met and married Greg Cooke who she shares two daughters with, Kristine and Stefanie. She later met Lewis Young on a flight to London, England and they married a few years later. Diane moved to Palmdale, CA where she had her third daughter, Lauren. Diane absolutely loved children and was born to be a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved competition and playing racquetball and golf and also enjoyed Scrabble, card games, going on bike rides, walking her dachshund, Pippi, and cruising the Oxnard, CA harbor channel where Diane and her husband, Lewis, lived. Lewis and Diane loved to travel and regularly took their motorhome to Lake Mead and Mammoth as well as yearly trips to Cozumel with friends. Diane will be remembered for being fiercely loyal to her family who she would do absolutely anything for, extremely positive without ever complaining, and always had a dash of sarcastic humor at all the right times.
Diane is survived by her husband Lewis; daughters Kristine (Ron), Stefanie, and Lauren (Mark); grandchildren Brianna (Colton), Makenzie (Luke), Audrey, and James; great-granddaughters Scotlyn, Lennon, Sawyer, and Laney; brothers Jeff (and family), Dwight (Kay and family), Tim (Carrol and family), and Kevin (René and family).
