Cynthia Broughton, a long-time resident of Mesa, Arizona passed away on July 10, 2022, at the age of 84. She was born in New York City on March 31, 1938. She graduated from Princeton High School, and then went on to get her bachelor’s degree at the University of Arizona, followed by one year of graduate study in biology.
Cynthia was a creative and talented fiber artist. In her early career she designed beautiful quilts, but soon moved on to weaving. She could do it all. For instance, starting with fur freshly sheared off an alpaca, she carded the fur, spun it into yarn, (sometimes dyed it,) wove the yarn and sewed the fabric into beautiful garments, which she then sold. She is well known in the weaving community for her unique, complex and award-winning designs.
Cynthia was not only passionate about her work, but a loving wife and mother. She was a wonderful role model for all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Kip, sister Mary, children Glenn and his spouse Jennifer and Diane and her spouse Ray, along with grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
