Craig Bryant Herrig was born November 22, 1949 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Donald and Elaine (Harald) Herrig. He attended Albert City-Truesdale school, graduating in 1968. He also attended Iowa Central Community College. In June 1970, he enlisted in the US Army Reserves 339th Military Police in Pocahontas, Iowa. On November 28, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart Katherine Ann Fritz. To this union, a son Kyle Bryant was born in 1978 and a daughter Karna Ann in 1981. In 1973, Craig and his brother Terry started a partnership which included raising turkeys for 37 years and farming. Craig also drove semi- trucks and delivered Winnebago motor homes in the winter months. In the late 1980’s their partnership expanded in the turkey business until 2008 and 2010 when they sold the turkey farms and continued grain farming. In 1992, Craig and his family hosted a Russian equipment engineer, Artour Shaikhislamov, and that family friendship has continued to this day. The families have continued their friendship yearly, meeting in either Russia or the United States. As a family they enjoyed many vacations, traveling, boating and skiing. The last ten years Craig and Kathy have enjoyed wintering at their home in Mesa, Arizona, spending time with their children, their four granddaughters and exploring Arizona by quadding and traveling. Craig is survived by his wife Katherine, their son Kyle and his wife Kim Herrig and their daughters Alaina and Malia of Chandler, AZ, their daughter Karna and her husband Thomas Tate and their daughters Kai and Pre of Scottsdale, AZ, his parents Donald and Elaine Herrig, three brothers Terry, Scott and Mark, many other relatives and also the many friendships he has created over the years. Honorary pallbearers include Art Dahl, Artour Shaikhislamov and Loren Gustafson. Pallbearers include Dwight Kulp, Grant Shold, Dick Aronson, Bob Anderson, Dennis Bruns and Jason Gustafson. A memorial service will be held in Craig's honor on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 10:30 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 401 Spruce St. N. in Albert City. A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Abben Cancer Center, 1200 1st Ave. E. Spencer, IA 51301-4321.
