Anita Stewart Penton was born on September 21, 1924, in Akron Ohio. She was one of three children (Maxine, Anita, and William) and grew up in western Pennsylvania. She attended high school in Franklin, PA and then went to Spencer Hospital in Meadeville, PA where she attended nursing school and received her RN degree.
While working at Deshon Hospital in Butler, PA she met the love of her life, James Rutan Penton in 1945. He was an Army CPT wounded in Europe during WWII and was sent to Deshon Hospital for recovery.
They married on May 15th, 1948, and had four children, Mary Ellen, Ralph, Susan, and Marjory. Eventually they had 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
In 1963 the family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona; then Twin Falls, Idaho and then back to the Phoenix area in 1969.
She worked in hospitals and clinics as an R.N. until the late 1970’s. She and Dad opened a gift shop in Phoenix and then when they moved to east Mesa, they opened a gift shop there instead.
Mom loved to play Bridge and other card games. She was a good cook and could quilt and crochet.
Anita passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023 in Mesa AZ. Her warmth, humor and love will be missed by all who knew her. A more gentle person never existed.
