Your work on earth was a CRAZY wild ride on an outrageously rocky dirt road with many gigantic bumps, heaps, leaps, holes... HUGE crazy rocks and rocky spots, pot holes, sink holes, dips, pits and muddy waters!
But NO more worries mom! Your road and load has finally smoothed into a freshly new and beautifully "black paved" country drive. It travels straight to the transfer of blackened pavement into bright shiny golden streets in the beautiful heavenly city.

Mom....
You are INDEED.. the "most lovely", precious, "full of laughter", full of joy, loving, giving, sharing, caring, SWEET, fun loving, and (perfectly beautiful)....
"Miss Princess Shirley" I LOVE YOU!
. (WE Love You)!
🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹
Shirley was a wife, homemaker, mother, and the "bestest" friend you could ever have. ("Bestest" Not REALLY a word. Bestest is a "nonstandard emphatic" 'form' of best. But "Bestest" is an "informal word" that acts as an "extra superlative" form of best. It's to "mean" the ('BEST of the BEST'!)
And THAT'S Shirley Girley!
"The BEST of the BEST"! My Mom!
....OUR Mom!
When Shirley was born, she had to have an operation on her neck to save her life! She had some type of tumor or BIG lump under her chin near her neck that was causing her big time problems with her survival and breathing! She and my dad have both told me the recollection of this extreme event.
Daddy says "I think maybe even the doctors weren't sure that she would survive that tumor. . Your mother said that her daddy sometimes would go down to the banana River, and pray,
(I think all night long) for her survival".
When Shirley was just a little girl, she LOVED butter! I guess always has!
As a little girl she liked to get into the refrigerator, especially to get a hold of the butter. One day she was caught by one of her parents while sitting on the floor (with the door wide open on the refrigerator), sitting there with a whole slab of butter, just eating away! LOL
Shirley had a really super close friend as a girl named Diana that was as close to her as a sister!
They shared many happy times together and I'm sure secrets and FUN times! SWEET BEST of FRIENDS! 😘
Shirley worked doing many domestic duties, jobs, and side hustles throughout her "career as a Child of God". Helping her parents, doing chores at home as a child. And as an adult, ironing clothes, cleaning homes and commercial properties, babysitting, lawn care mowing maintenance (of both commercial and residential grounds - some here and there), many little humble duties of which she CHEERFULLY executed!
Oh, and when she was a young girl, she helped her father Hughlett in their little grocery store her father owned. She was always helping her father Hughlett in the store and around at home whenever she could.
By the way, let me interject something here... at a very young age Shirley's mother, Evelyn Eleanor Greek, was very ill of health a lot. Her mother was a diabetic who needed much help, attention and assistance in her weakened condition. Shirley, in her early or middle teens, had a lot of responsibility in taking care of her mother and in giving her insulin shots.
She had to take care of the household responsibilities also because her mother was not fully able to do much in her condition. She had to help take care of the home, cooking, - and her mom! (AND help in their store whenever she could), all while going to school as well.
And of course, as things worsened with her mother's condition, Shirley had to take on more and more responsibility of taking care of her mom, the home, and cooking responsibilities for her family... still at a very young age.
So little "Miss Shirley" had much on her plate, with much much responsibility as a young girl growing up. And she did an EXCELLENT job! Always a hard worker! Shirley always tried to do her very best.
She ALWAYS worked very hard... to do the very best she could do in ("anything") and "EVERYTHING" she ever put her hands to do.
Shirley worked in the kitchen, as a baker and food prep in a public school in Orlando. She worked at another public school on Silver Star Road in Pine Hills, Florida in either bakery or kitchen services or both.
And bless her heart, she also worked in the kitchen at the Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida doing many little duties, such as cleaning, prepping food trays, taking and delivering food trays to patients on different floors.
After she moved to Cocoa, Florida she continued doing several domestic jobs, and side hustles. But she also starting work at Publix in the bakery.
She took care of some elderly people FOR FREE from the sweet goodness of her heart at different times in her life.... Such as my grandmother, Mabel Inman! She took VERY good care of grandma! Taking her shopping and attending to her different needs.
Shirley was ALWAYS thinking about and doing for others! It was just a part of who she was!
Shirley LOVED.. "to LAUGH"!
She always loved to smile and laugh and have fun!
Shirley was also very sensitive! Years ago she used to watch 3 or 4 of her favorite soap operas she loved on TV... that would really get her going!
LIKE... "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing", "The Young and the Restless", "As the World Turns", and a few or so others. (SMILES)😁
One time she called Beverly (one of her VERY best friends), and told her that this one guy, on one of these soap operas, had died! (She was in relentless tears)!
Beverly (trying to calm her down) said, "Shirley, Shirley, it's okay, it's just a soap opera! It's not real!
He's still alive", it's okay! LOL
Then Mom was like... (Back to reality)!
Like... "Oh, yeah, it's not real" Bless her heart!
Moms THREE best friends (and "sister kindred spirits") are Beverly Gilliam Byrd, Rena Sunshine Meintzer, and Diana Fike (Dina Momma)!
She loved these three ladies like sisters, (to the HILT)!
Beverly says, (of which I agree)
"Shirley had a heart as big as the outdoors"! She also said that mom was a "match maker"! For it was Mom that was sort of responsible for hooking Beverly and her husband up together! LOL - Ahhhh... Super!
She also said that Mom was responsible for helping her to learn and understand about the Sabbath and they would do Bible Studies together!
And Beverly said that she and Mom would cook together and talk together until wee hours of the morning.
And sometimes mom would say "Let's go grab an orange icy at the store"!
She loved icees!
And Mom love to have picnics with her best friends. AND... Mom knew NO strangers, everybody loved Mom!
Everyone always said that mom was the SWEETEST thing! She was ALWAYS laughing, and smiling! Mom loved to have fun!
Mom is said to have made some of the very best veggie burgers you ever put in your mouth, best vegetarian haystacks that you could stack up, and some of the most mouth-watering tender roast TURKEY for Thanksgiving that you ever divinely tasted!
(Here is her secret on the turkey)...
Place it in a bag and put it in the oven, after you have well seasoned it.. Etc, and place it in the oven on 200 to 250 and leave it overnight till the morning!
Yum! Yowza yowza !!!! Mouth wateringly delicious!
Shirley's other best friend Rena lived just across the street from us on King Street. One day when I was a little girl, I was headed over to go to Rena's house to see HER little girl Cyndi, who is one of "MY" best friends. And as I was going, I stepped on a great big nail.
Cyndi's Dad picked me up and rushed me back across the street to my mama. He and mom pulled that big nail out of my foot... I was crying and probably screaming... (the way I was screaming when I first stepped on the nail). Mom fixed and doctored me all up! Mom always knew just what to do!
I could write a big book about Mom, and maybe I will! Mom loved camping, picnics, parks, she loved going to the beach, swimming, floating on a raft in the spring, traveling, going roller skating, and taking walks up to the corner store to get some chocolate candy or a drink!
She loved to travel with Daddy on little vacation trips all around the United States. She loved root beer floats, banana splits, vanilla and chocolate shakes, vanilla ice cream in the cone, CHOCOLATE Bars, fruit pies, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake with chocolate icing, just about anything with chocolate in it.
Mom liked eating cantaloupe, and watermelon, and having good times... especially with her two best friends in Orlando. Boy did they have some awesome times!
Shirley loved to bake! She would bake all kinds of different cakes and pies, cookies, and yummy things!
Mom would take guavas off the tree bushes in the backyard and make guava jelly!
Oh here's a good one for you! One time, when I was a little girl, I did something I wasn't supposed to... and mom went in the backyard and broke off a long switch off one of those TALL sleek slithery pine trees, she took all the pine needles off and switched my little tail. Man I never did THAT again... WHATEVER it was! And I will always remember the "ouch" that THAT gave!
And one time, I SAID something I wasn't supposed to say... I don't know what it was. But mom took a bar of Ivory soap and stuck it in my mouth and rubbed it around real good so that I got a NICE mouth washing!
YEP.... WASHED MY MOUTH RIGHT OUT WITH SOAP! (Another thing I will never forget)! And I determined I would never say whatever bad thing it was I said again! LOL! That CURED ME GOOD on THAT point!
I love you momma!
One of mom's favorite colors - and I think her ("VERY") favorite color, was RED! She also liked the color yellow, and purple, and I THINK "GREEN" too, but don't hold me to the green though... I could be mistaken! But I think she liked green also!
But man oh man did she LOVE RED!
She used to have a very special pair of BEAUTIFUL (RED) HIGH HEEL shoes!
I remember she just loved those shoes! She looked great in them too! She looked good in red!
I remember Mom taking me to Camp meetings in tents, Sabbath School on Saturday monings, Wednesday Night prayer meetings, Friday night Sabbath vesper services, Saturday Sabbath Church services, Sabbath evening vesper "after glows", and pathfinders, and pathfinder camporees,
camp Kulaqua summer camp,
and taking me to church school at Orlando Junior Academy - OJA!
Mom would always read my Sabbath school lesson to me at night and she or dad would read a bedtime story from "Uncle Arthur's bedtime stories books"!
Mom would lay in bed on Sabbath afternoon, after Church or the fellowship meal, and just read her Bible with such devotion. These are precious memories I remember!
And when Shirley would hug you...
buddy you knew you were hugged!
You would melt right down into those huggy arms and, as my friend Cyndi would say... "She could hug you and it felt like you were part of her"!
Cyndi also says "She could laugh and make everybody in the room laugh with her, and that she made the best veggie burgers in the whole world"!
Cyndi told me " Your mom was tenacious, she would go all over the world to find you and take care of you"!
YEPPERS.... That was Mom!
Daddy says... "Yes, I really enjoyed her cooking and baking! She was an excellent baker and cook ! She could prepare some delicious meals! I also really enjoyed going on vacations with her and you. And I was proud of her for wanting to have family worship everyday! There wasn't a lazy bone in her body. She was a super hard worker all the days I have known her"!
Mom loved "Shirley Temple"... she loved her movies and songs! She loved several Elvis Presley songs also, like "I Can't Stop Falling in Love With You", "Love Me tender", and others.
She loved many gospel songs.
Sooooooo many!
Mom loved to play the piano, especially playing many great gospel songs!
Mom loved happy events, holidays, birthdays, and especially Christmas and she would make Christmas the best happiest Christmas ever. She made it my favorite time of year!
Well like I said before....
I could go on and on about momma Shirley and I could write a BOOK!
You are a princess Mama Shirley!
We love you forever!
To the super lovely... beautiful,
"outrageously wonderful"
"Miss Princess Shirley"!
