Mark Anthony Houston, 58, of Cocoa, Florida, passed away on March 9th, 2018. He was born November 4th, 1959 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late George “Junior” Houston and Alice Faye Stotts Houston (McConnell). Mark Anthony was the oldest child out of seven children and was the beloved protector of his siblings. He was an All-Star football player at Colonial High School in Orlando, Florida and had a lifelong passion for the sport. He graduated from Colonial High School in 1978 and continued working in sales. He later joined the Army for a short time, where he excelled and was awarded Sharpshooter of the M-16A1 Rifle. After his service in the military, he went back to his sales career and managed health clubs all over the United States. Aside from health and fitness, Mark had a number of other interests in life. These included gardening, where he loved working with plants and flowers, Fantasy Football, and numerology. Mark was a spiritual person who loved to watch Joel Osteen and had patriotism for his country. Mark is predeceased by his father, George “Junior” Houston; grandmother, Eva Juanita Ferrell Houston; grandfather, George B. Houston; uncle, Lawrence E. Houston; aunt, Betty Marie Stotts Himelspach, all of Zanesville. He is survived by his mother, Alice and step-father David McConnell; loving sisters, Angela Houston, Lisa Houston, Valerie Worden (Curt); brothers, Ricki Houston (Lisa), David McConnell II (Shelly), and Scott Andrew McConnell (Dana), all of Brevard County; nieces and nephews, Angelina Rosania of Orlando, David McConnell III of Cape Canaveral, Chase McConnell of Merritt Island, Emily, Haley and Caroline McConnell of Merritt Island, Natalie and Jay Houston of Orlando, and Niki and Jack Worden of Orlando; and other relatives. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2018, 2:00 P.M. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 5555 N. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, FL, 32953 with Reverend Peter F. Roberts officiating. A Celebration of Life will take place immediately thereafter at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home at 1360 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953 where all are welcome.
