Harrell William Smith, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, peacefully passed away on [date]. Born on October 6, 1924, in Graysontown, VA, to Virginia and Bentley Smith, Harrell's life journey was marked by resilience, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.

Harrell's early years were spent in Radford, VA, where he attended elementary and high school. His commitment to service and duty was evident when, the day after his graduation in June 1943, he courageously answered the call of his nation and was inducted into the U.S. Army to serve during World War II. Harrell served with honor and distinction, ultimately receiving an honorable discharge in January 1946.

In January 1946, fate smiled upon Harrell as he crossed paths with Joanne Wheeler, the love of his life. True to his heart, he confided in his best friend and proclaimed that he was going to marry her. Keeping his promise, Harrell and Joanne exchanged vows on July 2, 1948, embarking on a journey that would span nearly seven decades. Their union was blessed with the joy of two children.

Harrell dedicated a decade of his life to the Norfork and Western Railroad before relocating with Joanne and their children to Cocoa, FL, in August 1957. There, he pursued various endeavors, including building houses and working for a moving and storage company. In 1961, Harrell joined RCA at the Kennedy Space Center, later transitioning to Civil Service from 1963 to 1965, and then to a 22-year tenure with Technicolor. His dedicated service concluded with his well-deserved retirement in October 1987.

A man of strong faith, Harrell was a charter member of the Cocoa Presbyterian Church, joining in May 1958. He held the office of Deacon for many years, exemplifying his commitment to his spiritual community. Harrell's passions extended beyond his professional life, as he enjoyed fishing with his lifelong friend Donald, his son Benny, and playing football and baseball during his high school years in Radford. In Cocoa, he found joy in softball and spent leisure hours working on challenging puzzles.

Harrell is survived by his loving wife Joanne, their children Linda Susan Smith May (Buster) and William "Benny" Bentley Smith (Barbara), six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, fifteen step-great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, service, and commitment will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.

A celebration of Harrell's life will be held at Cocoa Presbyterian Church on Saturday February 3rd at 10am. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
