Fred passed peacefully at Viera Hospital on September 3rd at the age of 85. He was born in 1934 in Chesterfield County SC to Charles Furman Smith and Cleo Ophelia Jordan. His younger years were spent in North and South Carolina until the family moved to Jacksonville FL in the early forties. He was a Robert E. Lee High School Graduate and later attended Jacksonville University. From there, he went to the University of Florida where he graduated in 1963. Go Gators! In 1966, he moved to Rockledge and spent the next 30 years in the Brevard Public School System as a physical education and math teacher.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother David G. Smith. He is survived by his brother, Charles F. Smith of Jacksonville FL; sister, Doris Smith of Jacksonville FL; and sister-in-laws, Joyce Smith of Keystone Heights FL, Midge Smith of Jacksonville FL and Dellene Carlson of Merritt Island, FL.
Fred is survived by his wife of 48 years Joanie; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Michael Kreutz, Jacksonville FL; grandson Michael Giannini and wife Felicia; great grandchildren, Andre, Zachary, Dominic and Mia, Fernandina Beach FL. He has several nieces and nephews both in and out of state.
A Mr. Fix It--he could fix anything—nothing was too big or too small to tackle. He loved fishing and spent many a day out on the ocean. The mountains of North Carolina called to him in later years where we built a cabin in the woods with his brother David and wife Joyce.
