It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the Schertz family announces the passing of William (Bill) Allen Schertz. Our loving family member passed away peacefully at his home on December 28, 2023, in Merced, Ca. surrounded by family members.
Bill was born in Merced, Ca to William Ward Schertz and Lucille Winters. He was a very kind, giving and caring person. He grew up in Merced and graduated from Merced High School. After High School he went to work for Merced Community Medical Center in medical supplies. Soon thereafter, he started his firefighting career working for the Merced County Fire Department for 23 years. He then retired and worked at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course in the Golf Pro Shop for 15 years.
Bill enjoyed attending Bible study at the First Baptist Church in Merced. Bill also enjoyed golfing with his buddies and repairing golf clubs, spending time with his children and great grandchildren and his frequent visits to Baskin Robbins for his Cappuccino Blasts.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy of 43 years; his son William Keith Schertz (Shanda) of Sonora; his daughters Carolyn Bean (Tom) of Fremont, Kimberly Bazzar (Frank) of Idaho and Victoria Bann (Wade) of Merced; his 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; his brother Neil Schertz (Lisa) of Merced; his sister Loy Creel of Coalinga; his stepmother Gladys Winters of Merced; his sister in-laws Linda Schertz of South Carolina and Lisa Schertz; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both his parents, his sister Patricia Adams, his brother, Lonnie Schertz, his stepfather Joe Winters and his brother in-law Joe Creel.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. A reception will follow. Interment will be private.
