Richard Hernandez, beloved father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Richard was born the third oldest out of five siblings on November 13, 1948, to Rebecca H. Alonzo.
He grew up in the town of Planada, Ca. and attended High School in Le Grand. At the age of 17 he volunteered to join the United States Army and went to Vietnam to fight for his country as part of the 173rd Airborne. In 1970 he was injured in the war and when he returned home he was given the Purple Heart Award.
In the 70's he drove school buses and in the 80's he drove big rig trucks for Keller Corporation in Merced. In the late 80's and early 90's he became a part of Mores Karate in Merced which lead him to becoming a 3rd degree blackbelt and an instructor. Richard owned and loved Harley Davidsons and corvettes. In his older age he got into fine scale modeling. He enjoyed his Classic Rock and loved it loud. He was a gifted storyteller because could tell you a good story. He liked to talk about his good times driving truck, traveling state to state and his experiences in Vietnam.
Richard was a good man who is loved by his family and who brought happiness to his friends. He was a generous, selfless man, who will be missed very much.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca H. Alonzo. He is survived by his children, Dominique Coronado and son in-law, Manuel Coronado Jr and Ricky Hernandez Jr.; his brothers, Robert Mendez, Albert Alonzo and Greg Alonzo and his sister, Annie Pino. Also surviving Richard are 2 grandchildren.
