Diane Lynn Reid-Romero (Dee Dee), age 44, was born on May 29, 1966 in Merced, CA. She passed away at her home on September 16, 2010. She was the very proud mother of two loving sons, Christopher and Joseph Romero. She is survived by her husband, Rudy Romero, her brother, Mike Reid (Mary), her sister, Sharon Reid, her mother Lutie Harris and stepfather, Skip Harris; her father, Don Reid (Carol), her nephews Ian Reid (Justine) and son, Gavin and nephew Corey Reid. Aunts Ciria Ghiorso (Mike), and Phyllis Jean Niehaus, (Joe) cousins Susan Calhoun and Clayton Niehaus. Diane was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Georgia and Candelario Casillas, paternal grandparents, Phyllis and Dr. Eugene Hamer Reid and her cousin, John Ghiorso and her Uncle, Dr. Richard Reid.
Diane was educated at local elementary and high school. She attended Merced Community College before transferring to Fresno State where she obtained a B.A. Degree in Liberal Studies and went on to earn her elementary education credential. She taught for 18 years in the Merced City School District. Her love of children followed her to each class she taught.
Diane’s many hobbies included Bunco, shopping, scrapbooking, entertaining her many friends in her home, gardening, home decorating for every holiday, holiday trips to the beach with her boys, her dogs, Benji and Bear. She loved buying birthday presents for the students that invited her to their birthday parties and caring for students’ needs outside the classroom, her job of teaching school was something she loved and she treated it as a hobby.
There are not enough positive adjectives to describe Diane. She was the positive forced in all the many lives she touched in the short 44 years of her life.
Visitation will be at the Stratford Evans Funeral Chapel on B Street in Merced on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 during the hours of 4:00-8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall at 671 E. Yosemite Avenue, Merced, CA on Thursday, September 23, 2010 starting at 10:00 AM.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions can be made to the Diane Reid-Romero Teachers’ Scholarship Fund or the Christopher and Joseph Romero Education Fund co Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced CA.
