Camping 2015 Leo Carillo, John H and Brett

“Met Brett in early 90s at a 435 Field Day called "Altitude With Attitude" at Blue Ridge camp ground in Angeles National Forest. There was a whole lotta folks from 435 Pirate Ham Radio at this event, some even came with long-wire antennas and HF rigs!. Brett was a huge help to Sue and I getting our camp kitchen together and prepping food for about 30 hungry hams. Later Brett lived w/ us for a few yrs and became "family".
God knows we miss you Brett.

Jeez Brett, so many memories.   We’ve  had so many conversations talking about your personal issues, talking about my personal issues…..I’m going to miss those conversations.   You were a great friend  and a great ear to lean on.    I hope I was the same for you.   You’ve impacted my life more than you know.   You’re going to be missed my brother.   Radio will never be the same.

Brett was a hard man to get close to, but once you were in his world you were golden. He would do anything for his friends and loved ones. Thought of each of you more than you knew, prayed for you more than you felt, honored you in ways even secret to himself. I got to spend years by his side, on and off, observing this. He was close to few, and it became far less with his last move and the pandemic, but that made the few he had all the sweeter and more precious. And the kids in his life were his rays of light. To all of you, I am profoundly sorry for your loss. The world is just a little less sure footed, a last laugh has faded, the radio crackles off but we have its echos in the million little ways he changed us.

You will be sorely missed. The night we met, you proclaimed (loudly) that I was melting… in truth, I was standing over a red/green lawn light that was smoking, and to you, it appeared that I was melting. Sometime later, I found myself hanging out with your brother, Brian. Watching the 2 of you bring chaos and laughter everywhere you went was amazing to  view from the sidelines. 
The words “roast beef” have never been said without a giggle thanks to you.
The surprise recording that Erich and I did with you really impressed us. Who knew you had such a great hardcore/punk voice? You sounded great screaming nonsense into a mic…. And a CB/Ham radio.
I remember you at Brian’s wedding, you borrowed some kids razor scooter and went barreling down a hill in a full tuxedo with a huge smile on your face… 
I was always amazed at how you were able to fix just about anything…. Including that time you fixed the oil leak in my transmission … and then handed me back some “extra bolts”, hahaha.
You were an endless source of comedy to me growing up, you always had something wacky to say. Hopefully you’re making people smile wherever you’re at now!

We were roommates, friends and brothers. You were and always will be “Uncle Brett”., to my kids. You are a huge loss to our family. Christmas eve’s will never be the same, bro. We shared tons of laughs, some sorrow and a lifetime of memories. You will Never Be Forgotten and always be my Brother.
