William Henry Rohe, age 93, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at his son’s home in Town of Vinland. He was born December 18, 1917, the son of the late Henry and Gertrude (Demerath) Rohe. He was employed (as a journeyman Painter) at American Can Co. for 44 years before retiring. Bill was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Transportation Corp., carrying troops to the Aleutian Islands, Korea & Japan. He served as Sgt. Major on the David W. Branch & S.S. Le Grande Victory Ships. Bill married the former Lillian Strey on July 5, 1947, in Neenah, WI. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Menasha. He was also a member of Germania Benevolent Society & the Leo Van Roy Legion Post 265 in Darboy, WI. for over 50 years. He was a dedicated member of Local 148 Papermakers Union, serving in various offices including Chairman of the Grievance Committee, Vice President, and the President for 13 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tramping in the woods at his northern cottage near Langlade, WI. Bill also enjoyed traveling. He and his wife, Lillian, toured many foreign countries and also Hawaii, Alaska and the Holy Land. Bill and Lillian were dedicated Packer fans, never missing a Green Bay game, including the famous Ice Bowl game with Dallas. He enjoyed his home in the Town of Harrison, keeping 7 acres of lawn cut with his riding lawn mower. He was blessed to spend his last few years with his wife, Lillian, at his son George’s home.
Bill is lovingly survived by his wife Lillian; son, Roger (Verna) Rohe; daughter, Mary (Jeff) Krueger; son, George (Marlene) Rohe; daughter, Chris (Steve) Bjorge; daughter, Pat Limpert; grandchildren: Brenda (Traves) Menting, Rodney Borkenhagen, Danielle (Tom) Putrow, Dawn (Garret) Graf, Sara Borkenhagen, Jolene (Tom) Welch, Kenneth (Nikki) Rohe, Isaac Bjorge, Emily (David) Sawall, Alyssa Breager, Ryan Krueger, Erin Krueger, William H. Rohe II and 21 great grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Borkenhagen, sons-in-law, Dan Limpert Jr. and Elroy Borkenhagen; brothers: George Rohe (Infant), Peter (Monica) Rohe, Cyril (Linda) Rohe and sisters: Valeria (William) Grassl, Florence (Sister Mary Manette) and Marcella (Charles) Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Larry Canavera officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday, June 27, 2011 for visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill’s name. Memorial will be donated to St. Mary Catholic Church.
