Rev. Warren Scott Grant

How do you capture a lifetime of love, of gentle favors small and great, of friendship flowing deeper than the Mississippi? You don’t. It captures you. For the greater part of our lives, Warren S. Grant has captivated us, here is his story.

Rev. Warren Scott Grant of Memphis, Tennessee, passed into heaven on June 28, 2022. Warren was the son of Floyd and Lora Grant. He was born into this world along with his twin sister Wanda, in Buffalo, Missouri, on January 14, 1931. He served as class president of his student council and business manager for Alamogordo High School. He accepted Christ at a young age and felt God’s leading into a life of ministry. He attended and graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. During his college years, he was selected to sing tenor for the CBC’s quartet, The Mission-aires. The group traveled on weekends and school breaks to promote CBC and raise money for missions. When on a concert tour in Waxahachie, Texas, he met his future wife, Betty Grant, on the campus of Southwestern Bible College. While in the student snack shop, Betty just happened to be there and asked him if she could borrow a dime. Luckily, he had one! After that priceless dime encounter, they dated, fell in love and were married for 59 years.

Right out of college, Warren accepted a position as a youth minister at First Assembly of God in Memphis, Tennessee. While there, he discovered he had a talent and voice for television and radio and so became part of their weekly broadcast, Christ is the Answer. Over the span of his ministry, he served as either head pastor or staff member, in Knoxville, Tennessee; Sacramento and Stockton, California; and Lewiston, Idaho. In 1974, he moved his family to Springfield, Missouri, to work in the communications department for the national headquarters of the Assemblies of God. His last formal ministry position led him back to where he began, at First Assembly in Memphis, as the Associate Pastor. Even after retirement, he continued to teach Sunday school, mentor new pastors, and serve at his church.

Warren was outgoing, friendly and a stranger to no one and, most of all, loved serving people. He loved his family, and would do anything to help a friend. He was a man of faith and God used this faithful servant to introduce and disciple many to Christ.

He was a faithful member of First Assembly Church in Cordova, Tennessee, and continued to be involved in the regional Assemblies of God presbytery.

Warren was a loving husband and father to his wife and three children. He was a friend to many and will be dearly missed. Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Grant, brother, Byron Grant and his parents, Floyd and Lora Grant. Warren is survived by his twin sister, Wanda, his children, Jeanne (Steve) Hamilton, Candyce McEwen, and Scott (Kasey) Grant. He has nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren who, affectionately, called him “Popper.”

His memorial will be held at First Assembly of God in Cordova, on Tuesday, July 19, at 10 a.m. CST. The service will also be livestreamed. Warren always had a heart for missions and so the family is requesting in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First Assembly of God Missions Department.
