She was the oldest of six with five younger brothers.
She married Abraham Hill at the age of 18 and they moved to Memphis
and had four children – Alan, Terry, Angala and Jay. She was employed by
Grace Chemical for many years. She was a member of Rugby Park Assembly of God where she was involved in every aspect of the church. She taught many classes, mentored young
women, did community service, and planned many events. Her faith and
love for Jesus was apparent to everyone that ever met her. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Her spunk and tenacity were contagious to everyone around her. She loved
her hobbies of crafts, ceramics, her Red Hat group, and her church
group, the Senior Soul Go Getters. She impacted many, many people’s lives as a follower and servant for
Christ.She is survived by: Three children: Alan Hill, Angala Goff (Jeff) and Jay Hill (Lisa) Six Grandchildren: Calvin Hill (Donna), Nikki Tartera, Candace McKay (Ryan), Lauren Alleman (Rick), Mary-Katherine Hill and Lindsey Hall (Jordan); Thirteen great grandchildren and Two Great-great grandchildren.
A visitation for Velma will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Collierville First Baptist Church, 830 New Byhalia Rd, Collierville, TN 38017. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 9, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 830 New Byhalia Rd, Collierville, TN 38017. A committal service will occur Friday, June 9, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at McCurley Cemetery, State Hwy 366, Holly Grove, AR 72069. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to arrowsnest.org
