My sweet Memaw was truly one of a kind. A gem. There are so many things I will miss about her and so many memories of her I will cherish forever. She was spunky, loved to travel, full of stories and songs, serious about fashion and leopard print, and the most loyal to her people. I will miss the sweet cards she mailed Leila just cause there was a cat on the card and the cook books and baking supplies she’d save for me because I enjoy baking. She cared for others so deeply and her love for the Lord was as strong as it gets. What an example she was to all who had the privilege of knowing her. I can’t wait to see her again and hear the stories of her adventures in heaven ❤️

My grandma went to be with Jesus today. 
I couldn’t be any more certain of that. The woman that has prayed for me every day since I was born and never stopped encouraging everyone around her. Every page in her bible is highlighted and full of notes. I definitely got my fierce advocacy and big heart from her. She spent her days loving and serving others until she absolutely couldn’t any more. The last time she could drive she drove to my house to write me a check to take my kids to get ice cream. The last picture she took was with all of her great grand kids. The last time I visited her she told me an idea she had to have a pudding station for the kids to each get a bowl of pudding and add whatever toppings they wanted, and then we talked and talked about when she led the kids Mission Friends group for many years and took them all over Memphis doing local ministry. The last thing she texted me was a ladies number to call so that I could bring my kids to her nursing home to meet and sing about Jesus to all of her new friends. That’s who she was and she was so so proud of me and my kids, and all of her family. I cried by the gorillas at the zoo today when I found out she had run into Jesus’ arms, and then I walked around with my kids and soaked in and talked to them about all of Gods creation there because there’s nowhere else she would rather me be. She ran her race and never slowed down and I hope I can do just the same. I love you Memaw and I can’t wait to see you again💕

What an honor it has been to call Velma my mother-in-law. She has been a prayer warrior, an encourager and  such an example of a godly woman for the last 36 years that I’ve known her. She has always been the sweetest grandmother to my children  and truly an example to me of how a mother and grandmother loves her family. Earlier this month I went through her things to help her clean out before moving to an assisted living. Everything I found every book every statue every newspaper clipping all pointed to Jesus. She truly lived her entire life with her faith and her relationship with Jesus at the forefront.  What a legacy she has left behind for us.

My mother was my rock, my first love, and my everything. She was the patriarch of the family, our prayer worrier and our inspiration. She loved everyone, she had no enemies. Her love was unconditional and never ending.  She fed the hungry and prayed for the lost. Her legacy will carry on in our family for generations to come. Her entire life on this earth can be wrapped up in one word ……Jesus.  Because she dedicated her entire life serving and worshiping him    I will see you again mother ……. I promise.    

The bond between a mother and her child is unbreakable. It’s a connection that transcends distance, time and can weather any storm. When I think about my mom, I smile. Not only is she the best person I’ve ever known, she’s also my confidant, my cheerleader, and my best friend. If you have a mom like mine, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. If you’ve had a difficult or unhealthy relationship with your mom, there’s still an unbreakable love that will never cease—the unbreakable love of Jesus. He loves you more than you know and nothing you ever say or do will change the love He has for you and me.

Romans 8:38-39: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Heaven gained a very special angel.  Although my heart is heavy, we know where she is and she’s happy.  She has lived her whole life for Jesus. Today she is walking the streets of gold with him and rejoicing!  Memaw was the biggest cheerleader for so many.  That’s how I’ll remember her.... on top of being spunky, fun, and enjoying fashion, but most of all LOVING and LIVING for the Lord. 💖

Well done, good and faithful servant. 

I know she rejoiced when she heard these words today. She longed for Heaven. She lived her life for Jesus. She loved God more than anything, loved others sincerely and forgave without hesitation. She shared the gospel. She helped the disadvantaged and always looked for ways to serve. She loved a gospel “singing”…especially a quartet. She took us to church and VBS. She loved to shop, always had a matching handbag and shoes 🥰, and was always up for a road trip. She even bought a van for our pageant trips 😂💖 

More than anything, she was faithful in prayer. Always. She was there when I took my first breath and I was there when she took her last. It brings me joy to have loved her. The way she lived her life certainly impacted mine.  She gave me this book in 1988 and it, along with her many prayers, carried me along the way. She lived by scripture and what a beautiful gift to be able to pray God’s Promises over her. 

“She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.”  Proverbs 3:15-17

And in true Memaw fashion, the Lord delivered a beautiful double rainbow to celebrate her homecoming today. Well done. 👑

Our thoughts  and prayers are with all the family.  We will truly miss you dear Velma, but we know you are rejoicing with our Lord.  

Velma was a wonderful person and loved her family. I met her in Red Hats group. She went with us once to Red Hat convention. We always had a good time

Many fun memories. When I first meet Velma she wore a red lobster hat she made for a Red Hat Luncheon at a sea food resturant. Always creative in her attire. Sharing time with Velma was a blessing. Such a sweet and caring Red Hat sister.

I am so very sorry for the loss of this mighty woman of God.  Many fond memories with her at Rugby Park Assembly
