Ronnie served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967-69 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He began his career with Memphis Light, Gas, & Water Division in 1970 as a journeyman cable splicer and retired as a supervisor in the electric division in 1995. Ronnie loved and lived to go fishing and hunting with his son, Craig. He also enjoyed watching University of Tennessee football.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melanie K. Carter; and siblings, Sherrie Gurley, Tony Carter, and Pattie Duke. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Glenda K. Carter; son, Ronnie Craig Carter; and siblings, Danny Carter (Linda) and Rodney Carter (Annie). He is also survived by a close cousin, Richard Davis.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Saturday, April 9 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, in the Life Remembrance Center at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. The funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 PM, at the funeral home. Graveside committal services will military honors will immediately follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family requests any memorial donations be directed to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
