Robert "Bob" V. Quick, age 89, of Memphis, Tennessee, died peacefully around 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 21, 2021. He was born in Cody, Wyoming on March 15, 1932, to James L. and Florence Gleason-Quick. Bob is the oldest and has a sister named Barbara Moser.
Bob graduated high school in Tremont, Illinois. Once he finished high school, he joined the United States Navy on June 11, 1951. After attending Aviation School in Squadron VF-11, he served in the Korean War until January 1953 when the war ended. He was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Third-Class Petty Officer. He received a few medals while in the Navy: China Service Medal, United Nations Medal and Korean Service Medal with Two Stars, just to name a few. In 1957, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves as a Staff Sergeant, where he worked on both propeller and jet engine type aircraft. Bob always said that he was very PROUD to have served his country.
His wife Gracie had a love for skating which brought them together at the skating rink in 1951. Before Bob set sail to serve in the Navy, he asked Gracie to marry him. Once Bob was out of the Navy, he came back to Memphis to marry Gracie. Gracie took her first train ride in 1953 to Jacksonville, Florida, where she and Bob got married. Bob came back to Memphis and worked at the Naval Base in Millington. Years later Bob went to the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to become an air traffic controller. Bob successfully graduated from the training school on his first try and was an air traffic controller in Memphis until he retired.
Bob was married to the late Gracie Inez Quick for 66 years, 7 months, and 9 days. Bob and Gracie Quick had three children, Jim (Teresa) Quick of Collierville, Tennessee, Carol (Roy) Henderson of Germantown, Tennessee, and Ken (Leigh Ann) Quick of Cordova, Tennessee. Also surviving him are his ten grandchildren, Bobby Pugh, of Collierville, Valerie (James) Sites of Collierville, Andres Rondon of Melbourne, Florida, Jonathan (Lauren) Quick of Arlington, Tennessee, Lauren Elizabeth Quick of Cordova, Jennifer (Cole) Kilgore of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, Richard Henderson of Germantown, Kristina Henderson of Memphis, Matthew Quick of Collierville, and Rachel Quick of Collierville, as well as three great-grandchildren, Dexter, David, and James.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM at the Grand Junction Cemetery in Grand Junction, Tennessee. The burial service is open to those who wish to attend, and a reception will immediately follow at the home of Jim Quick, 1126 Katelyn Cove, Collierville, Tennessee 38017.
