U.S. Marine, Retired, Sergeant Major Robert M. “Bob” Hawkins had his last call of duty on the 11th day of May 2013, when The Commander and Chief of All, the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega, called him to His attention. Bob made it to the rank of Sergeant Major after only 17 years of service to this county as a U.S. Marine. He bled for this country at least five times and was the recipient of multiple Purple Hearts. His first Purple Heart was awarded for wounds he suffered in Korea at 19 years of age. He was a veteran of Korea, and three tours in Vietnam and other special assignments. His son-in-law, Paul Hanson, had this to say, “my wife's Dad was a career man in the Marine Corps and one tough SOB who loved his country and loved his family. I have been his son-in-law for over 30 years and he was always been there for us. Tough as nails on the outside with a heart of gold on the inside! He would give you his shirt off his back if you were in need. Thank you “Papa” for all you have done for our family and our boys.” Bob Hawkins favorite phrase was, “do you need anything?” Dad, we will miss you on this planet, but since you’re up there, say hi to mom (Nanny) for us. Glory to God and Semper Fi!
