Sadly when Bobby was only 3 years old, his mother died. His father worked hard, but life was difficult during the Great Depression. Eventually, father and son moved to Memphis, where J.D. met and married Elizabeth Pollard. Young Bobby made good grades at Bellevue Junior High where he played trumpet in the school bands of Central High School and Bartlett High School.
Next Bob went to University of Tennessee at Knoxville, playing trumpet in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. In order to finish his degree in landscaping architecture, Bob transferred to L.S.U. where he was President of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Then he met lovely Sarah Cook. After graduation they married and moved back to Memphis.
In Memphis they joined Second Presbyterian Church where their membership, like their marriage, lasted more than 70 years. Bob served the church in many ways including deacon, elder and elder-emeritus.
He served in the United States Air Force and the Tennessee Air National Guard retiring as a Major.
Bob's landscape design company "Robert Green & Associates" began to grow. He did both residential and commercial jobs and won many national awards. The most prestigious awards were presented by various First Ladies at the White House.
Bob and Sarah were blessed with four children: Laura, Ginny, Jeff and Martha. They were later blessed with 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren with another on the way!
We are heartbroken at the loss of our dear Dad. He was a joyous, loving, talented man and our hearts hurt when we think how much we will miss him. So we try to picture him singing in Heaven's Choir... maybe his favorite, "I'll Fly Away".
Family and friends will gather on Monday, September 16th from nine o'clock in the morning until funeral services begin at ten o'clock all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. Pastor Billy Spink will lead the services for the day.
The family suggests any financial donations in Bob's name should be send to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
