September 12, 1960 – May 1, 2023
Richard Gregory Houser died on May 1, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, September 12, 1960, to the parents of Richard and Mildred Houser. He graduated from White Station High School.
Those who knew him best called him “Greg.” As an only child, Greg’s life was intimately intertwined with his mother, Mildred, his church, First Baptist Memphis, where both were faithful members for many years.
In his early years, Greg was employed by Seessels Grocery and was a dependable and honest employee.
After his beloved mother died, the church became Greg’s family. He depended on his friends for many things, especially to bring him to and from the church that he loved dearly. Greg served faithfully Sunday after Sunday, as a Greeter in the Welcome Center with his friend Jack Taylor, for many years.
He will be missed by his faith community. This loving and good man taught us much and it can be said of him, in the words of the Apostle Paul, (He) fought the good fight, (he) finished the race, (he) kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for (him) the crown of righteousness. I Timothy 4:7
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 1 o’clock p.m., with burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MemphisFuneralPoplar.com for the Houser family.
