Rebecca (Becky) Hall Thompson passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020, in the home of her daughter in Arlington, Tennessee. She was born on April 27, 1924, in Gibson County, Tennessee, to Wallace and Lavelle Hall. She graduated from Union City High School and moved to Memphis in 1941. On February 14, 1942, she married Charles Joseph (Joe) Thompson, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage, and he preceded her in death. Becky was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, always keeping her cookie jar full. She worked as a medical secretary at Baptist Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1991, and she was a dedicated member of Temple Baptist Church for 71 years.
“Grandma” is survived by four daughters, Charlotte Parsons of Crozet, Virginia; Marilyn (Joe) Warrington of Cotton Plant, Mississippi; Janet Tidwell of Tupelo, Mississippi; and Linda (Jim) Avery of Arlington; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, four nephews, and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy (Mike) Miser; two brothers, John and Ray Hall; and a sister, Angeline (Jimmy) Garrett.
Funeral services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 15, at 1:00 pm, with family visitation beginning at 11:30 am and public visitation from 12 noon until the service begins. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5658 Poplar Avenue. The family requests that memorials be sent to Temple Baptist Church, 8432 Germantown Road, Olive Branch, Mississippi; the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation (bmhgiving.org); or a charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
