Nancy Lenora Hairston Quinn, 70, of Collierville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2011. Nancy was very courageous during her long battle with cancer, but she has now left us with our loving and fond memories of her. Her life was filled with much happiness with her devoted husband for 35 years, and Nancy accomplished much during the “dash” between her first day and her last day here on earth. Born in Atlanta, GA on April 27, 1941, she graduated from North Fulton High School and attended the University of Georgia. Her first job was filing in her father’s office at F.W. Dodge as a teenager. Her banking career started with First of Atlanta Bank as a teller, and she advanced to become Executive Secretary and was asked by top management to follow them to Memphis in January 1974 to join the then Union Planters National Bank. She continued with Union Planters until her retirement in 2000, after more than 30 years in the banking industry. Nancy was the fourth and last surviving child of her family. She is predeceased by her parents, Ralph Martin Hairston II and Beatrice Gattis Hairston, and her siblings, Alan Hairston, Martha Hairston Taylor, and Ralph Martin Hairston III. She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence Roura Quinn, of Collierville, TN, and her stepdaughter, Laurie Quinn Montroy and her husband, Timothy Montroy of Auburn Hills, MI and four step-grandchildren, Justin, Katrina, Lindsey, and Tamra Montroy. She is also survived by her nieces, Diane Hairston Gelles, Trudy Hairston Parker, and Linda Sue Taylor, and her nephews, Eddie Hairston, Ralph M. Hairston IV, David Hairston, and Kenny Alfred Taylor, all their spouses and many grand nieces and nephews. Nancy loved the outdoors and was an avid tennis player for over 20 years. She and her husband loved the ocean and swimming, and they made many fond memories together by the seaside. She was an avid collector of fun and whimsical artwork, from cat pictures, fish sculptures, alligator furniture, colorful stoneware, cartoon character figurines, and a favorite 4” tall music box heirloom, and they enjoyed searching together for just the right fun artwork for their home. She loved cats and her home was home to many cats over the years, with six cats at one time. She loved all creatures great and small and enjoyed filling her home with beautiful colorful flowers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations may be made in Nancy’s honor to St. George’s Episcopal Church, Building Fund, 2425 S. Germantown Rd., Germantown, TN 38138. A memorial service will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11 o’clock.
