Mary Ellen Williams Walker. Mary Ellen, born July 5, 1922, in Rose Creek, TN, was the youngest of 5 children born to Joe Ed and Joe Ellen (Maness) Williams. She moved to Memphis during WWII to work at the Firestone plant from which she retired after 42 years. Known as “Granny” to most, she was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and was dedicated to feeding the homeless through local Methodist churches. She is predeceased by her husband Herman J. Walker, daughters Joe Ellen Henry and Helen Chadwick, sons-in-law Robert Henry and Ed Chadwick, grandson James Henry, granddaughter Erin Chadwick and her siblings, Maness Williams, Ted R. Williams, Celeste Higginbottom, and George Williams. She is survived by her children Judy (Morris) Koeppel, Ed (Diana) Walker and her grandchildren Michael Henry, Chuck (Maureen) Henry, Katy Watkins, Kathryn (John) Boyuka, Ruth Henry (Jen Utley), David (Stephanie) Koeppel, Susan Henry, Bradley Koeppel, Brian Chadwick, Dan Chadwick, John Walker, Mary (Ryan) Short as well as 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29 from 4-7 p.m., funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 30, all at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Ave. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
