Lucy Lynn Nace Burkhalter, age 60, of Germantown, TN, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 8, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones after a very short and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Lucy was born in Murfreesboro, TN on February 17 1962 to Ken & Harriett Nace. Lucy graduated in 1980 from Germantown High School.
All her life, Lucy had a servant’s heart, devoting time to her family and community. Lucy served as an active member of the Germantown Public Safety Education Commission. But most notably, Lucy’s final act was to give the gift of sight through eye and tissue donation. “And let us find and encourage within ourselves, those gifts that make each of us special: not star power, not intellectual prowess, but the ineffable mystery and extraordinary beauty of the simple human heart.”
Lucy is survived by her husband of 27 years Philip Burkhalter; he was her best friend always showing his unwavering companionship and love. These two partners in crime loved witty conversations, every golden age movie made before 1960, cooking, bike rides, gardening, fishing, long walks on the beach, and their beloved dachshund “CoCo”. Lucy loved the simple beauty in listening and playing music either on her Martin guitar or twinkling the ivory keys on her baby grand piano. Lucy expressed her artistic beauty through her photography, whether in nature or with family and friends. Lucy’s gift lives on in each photo allowing those memories to be shared through generations to come. She dabbled in jewelry making, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, embroidery, and politics. She had a passion for dachshund’s (too many to name), but we all know she’s having the best little wet nose reunion in heaven.
Lucy is survived by her siblings, Buster Nace (Jana) of Volente, TX, Shirley Hudson (Rob) of Crawfordsville, IN, Steve Burkhalter (Laura) of Nashville, TN, Sandy Barrios (John) of Collierville, TN, Kelly Greer (Michelle) of Panama City, FL, and Greg Greer (Janaina) of Miami, FL; nephews, Scooter Nace (Crawford, Seyda, Alley, Kendall), Michael Nace (Riley, Logan, Elle), Peyton Nace, Cole Hudson, and Nathan Burkhalter; nieces, Brandi Redmond (Brian) (Brooklyn, Brinkley, Bruin, Bri), Alexandra “Alex” Raymond (Cayden, Braelyn), and Shelley Burkhalter; Uncle Larry Nace (Peggy) and Aunt Roanne Nace all of Jackson, TN; cousins Steve Nace (Corinne), Jamie Nace, Kem Carr (Tom), Jerri Butler (Kim), Jill Johnson (Wayne), Jan Bright (Kevit), Libby Hamblin (Mark), Matt Cole, Biff Cole (Janice), as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.
Lucy, was preceded in death by her generous and loving parents, Harriett Miller Cole Nace, Donald Kenneth “Ken” Nace and Melba Greer Nace, Charlie and Lou Burkhalter; Uncles Gene, Joe and Bill Nace, Jimmie Rudolph, and Lynn Cole; Aunts Peggy J and Marjorie Nace, and Shirley Lonadier; and Cousins Lance Nace and Paula Nace.
The family would like to express their gratitude and love for our cousin Steve Nace and wife Corinne.
