Katharine Aiken Phillips died at home Saturday, April 14, 2012. She was born in Memphis, TN on February 26, 1918 to Warwick and Jean Aiken. Katharine was the wife of the late George P. Phillips of Memphis. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University and worked as a librarian for the Cossett Library in Memphis. Throughout her life she taught Bible classes, from Sunday School to years as Teaching Director for Community Bible Study to many years as the Bible teacher at St. Mary's. She was also the principal of the Lower School at St. Mary's.
She is survived by her brother Warwick Aiken (Marianne S. Aiken), her daughters, Katharine Huffman (the late Frank J. Huffman Jr.), Jean Lorton (Orlan E. Lorton III), grandchildren Katharine A. Huffman (John M. Rusciolelli), Dora H. Mullenix (Jason B. Mullenix, M.D.), Malinda L. Moseley (Stephen D. Moseley), Helen L. Trabue (Christopher H. Trabue, M.D.), Frank Jackson Huffman III (Abby G. May), and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue from 5 to 7 on Monday, April 16. And, the funeral will be at Second Baptist Church, 4680 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis TN at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Community Bible Study Ministry Center, 790 Stout Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80921; The George Phillips Scholarship Fund at St. Mary's School, 60 Perkins Ext., Memphis, TN 38117 or to the charity of your choice.
