James L. Johnson of Bartlett, Tennessee, was welcomed into his heavenly home on September 4, 2024. He was born on July 1, 1947 in Lepanto, Arkansas to Claudie L. Johnson and Flora McLean Gillis. Jim was a former Sergeant First Class in the Army Reserve who served during Vietnam, from August 1966 to May 1974 and again from 1984 to 1985 as an interrogator. He was retired from Orkin pest control and Enterprise car rental.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jackie, his daughter Lara Weaver (Steve) and his son Matt Johnson (Kimble). He leaves a brother, Bobby Johnson (Teresa) and sister, Joyce Mckenzie (Kenny) as well as a sister-in-law, Dollie Johnson. Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Johnson and John Johnson. Jim was also “Peeps” to three grandchildren who were the light of his life: Jacob Weaver, Madelynn Johnson and Kathryn Weaver; and a precious great granddaughter, Naomi Ingram. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well. Jim loved his family dearly. He also loved NASCAR, Notre Dame and U of M sports. Jim’s memory will never fade and he will always be cherished.
A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Family Funeral Care. The burial will take place at Bakers Chapel Cemetery in Big Sandy, TN.
