Dorothy Spencer Roll, 88, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2018. Dorothy was born on January 6, 1930 and resided in Memphis, TN. She is survived by her beloved brother, Charles Thomas Spencer and his wife Bobbie. Dorothy has gone to heaven to join her husband, Bobby Lee Roll, her parents Thomas Elmo Spencer and Wincie Oglesby Spencer, her sisters, Virleen Woodall, Elizabeth Emerson, Eleanora Spencer and her brother James Spencer.
Dorothy graduated in 1948 from Memphis Tech High school. She worked for Choctaw Company and the infamous 1970’s Psycho Lounge.
In June 1950, Dorothy married Bobby who was the love of her life. They were married for 60 years. Dorothy loved to roller skate at Rainbow skating rink. She was a member of the Memphis Ski Club. She wrote poetry, loved to travel and talk about Memphis history. She was a fabulous cook. Dorothy was a friend to everyone she met and was adored by her family and friends.
Dorothy was a devoted Mother to her children and their spouses, Jan and Ed Murphey, Gina and Randy Hyneman, Marilyn and Andy Thomas, Connie and Jim Holloway and Robert and Nancy Roll. Dorothy’s greatest joy in her life was her grandchildren, Molly and Stephen, Bailey and Brandon, Nic, Collins and Alexandra, Abby, Kyle and Andrea, Rob and Marissa, Peyton and Parker and her great grandchildren, Charlie, Rhodes, Ada, Lincoln, Kris, Powell, Lucy and Reagan with two more boys expected this year. Dorothy loved and cherished her many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar with Dr. Terry Smith of Nashville, TN officiating. The visitation will be January 10, 2018 at Noon followed by a chapel service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.
