Joan and her family moved to Memphis in 1966. She received a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Memphis State University and worked for the Shelby County School System for 30 years before spending another 10 years in the DeSoto County School System.
In 1986, she met the love of her life, Ed Murray, and they had many wonderful years together. They both loved dancing, particularly swing music, and attending sporting events. When Ed tragically preceded her in death, Joan said, “I will not let this define me. " She remained loving and optimistic and worked hard to be happy.
She was a lifelong learner and had an insatiable curiosity. When she finally retired, she began taking art history classes with her dear friend Jan and enjoyed many wonderful trips. She was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church, serving on the altar guild and Soup Sunday and volunteering with the Brooks Museum League.
A memorial service will be held in the St. Edward Chapel at Trezevant Manor on Thursday,
November 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow.
Donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Please pray for Joan's son, Jeff, and all of Joan's family and friends.
