Curtis Hayden Mayes, Sr., age 94, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022. Curtis was born in Franklin, KY to the late Ida Belle and T.O. Strain. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946 and served until 1966. Curtis was a Chief Petty Officer serving in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and many other bases.
Curtis is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Ann Mayes; his parents; his sister, Elizabeth Atwood; and his grandson, Scott Marino. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Mayes and Becky Marino; his son, Curtis Mayes, Jr. (Cindy); his grandchildren, Brandon Marino (Emily), Chelsea Marino, and Ashley Mayes; and his great-granddaughter, Cassi Porter.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 beginning at 12:30PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. There will be a graveside service held at 2:00PM at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange Road in Memphis following the visitation.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and Church Health Center in Memphis.
