Carl Hobert Cowan III

Carl was born to Rosezena Harris and Carl H. Cowan Jr. on December 23, 1969, in Chattanooga, TN. Carl spent his early childhood in Chattanooga before relocating to Nashville. Carl always enjoyed good-hearted competition from his youth running track to his time as a loving father challenging his children in putt-putt, air hockey, or video games. Carl's entrepreneurial spirit shone through his work as a manager at McDonald's, an independent cab driver, and a valued team member at Papa John's.

Carl is survived by his son, Alex Hayes; daughters, Jessica (Terry) James and Kyra Hayes; grandchildren Haley, Peyton, and Elijah James; mother, Rosezena Harris; sisters Chundra Rogers, Natalie Cosper, Candace McFarlane, Keisha Cowan, and Cordelia Cowan; brother Carl Eugene Cowan; aunt, Rachel Demaree; uncle, Claude “Buster” Harris, and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Braxton; father, Carl “Lou” Cowan Jr; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Willie Harris; paternal grandparents, Laura and Carl Cowan.

Carl’s family will host a memorial service on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 12:00 PM. The service will be held at Miracle Temple Church 1335 Plum Street Nashville, TN 37115. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in Carl’s name.
