James Lester Bennett, also known as Jimmy or Jimbo, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born on July 29, 1940, in Bunnlevel, North Carolina, to the late Lester Madison Bennett and Eunice Pauline Brock Bennett. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Jim was a man who lived life to the fullest and was passionate about everything he did. He had a zest for life that was contagious, and his fun-loving and spontaneous nature made him a joy to be around. Jim was also driven and ambitious, always striving for success in his endeavors.
After graduating from Lillington High School in North Carolina, Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1958 to 1964. His military service was a testament to his dedication and commitment.
Following his time in the Navy, Jim began his career in banking at First National Bank. However, he soon ventured into entrepreneurship, owning several businesses before finding his calling in real estate as an agent/broker. Later, he became a successful contractor and developer, overseeing numerous projects and developments throughout his career. One of his most significant achievements was the LaQuinta development in White City. However, in 2012, Jim's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, prompting his retirement.
Outside of his professional life, Jim had a love for travel and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated family man and found great joy in their company. Jim maintained an office in his home for many years, even after retiring, as he loved to work and stay engaged.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Linda Bennett of Medford, Oregon. He is also survived by his children from his first marriage to Carolyn: Jeffery of Scottsdale, Arizona; Mark of Midlothian, Virginia; Jason (Marguerite) of Tualatin, Oregon; and stepdaughter Jennifer (Dave) Knapp. Jim adored his eight grandchildren: Brooke, Rowan, Garret, Megan, Sophie, Lily, Andrew, and Gray. He is also survived by his brother, Hugh Bennett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and his three sisters: Jeanette Carpenter of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; Doris Wiliford (Loy) of Washington, North Carolina; and Elaine Wilcox (Jimmy) of Clayton, North Carolina. Jim leaves behind many other cherished relatives, primarily in North Carolina.
A Committal service will be held on January 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The ceremony will be a tribute to Jim's life and his contributions to his country, family, and community.
