Born January 4, 1945 in PA. She graduated from John Marshall in 1962. She continued her education at Meredith College graduating with a B.A. in English in 1966, followed by a Master’s in Education from UVA in 1969. After a 30 year teaching career in Henrico County, Alice decided to follow her true calling, Theology. Alice found strength in prayer and the healing powers God could provide. She continued her education and received a Master’s of Divinity from The Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond. This opened the door for perhaps her most fulfilling job as a Chaplain at Our Lady of Hope.
Alice’s other passion was travel and had a more than willing accomplice for 55 years with her loving and late husband, Tommy. She was the ultimate tour guide for her family and friends’ trips.
Above everything else was Alice’s Love of her two amazing daughters: Christy Perkins (Stephen), Debbie Simpson and her partner Jim, her ray of Sunshine in Life; her granddaughter Hannah Smith all of Mechanicsville, VA.
She is also survived by two cousins: Bettie Jo Soli of FL and Donald Soli of GA, Sister-in-Law Carol Newton, two nephews, Roger, Jr. (Cheryl) and Timothy all of FL.
She is predeceased in death by her parents; Jesse and Nell Atwill and her husband Tommy Bartley.
To celebrate her 77 years the family will receive friends at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road @ 6pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, November 17th, 2022. Graveside Service @ Greenwood Memorial Gardens on November 21st , 2022 @ 1pm.
